Our Babymoon Stay-cation in Donegal
Hiiiiii Guys n Gals,
I’m just back from our Babymoon ‘Stay-cation’ in Donegal! Whats a ‘stay-cation’ you may ask? Its a vacation that doesn’t involve going abroad! So we packed our cases and chucked them in the car (the back seats of course…The dog was occupying the boot!!) And off we went! It was the most ‘stress free’ packing and holiday we’ve ever had. No last minute call for the passport check, no online check in, no excess baggage worries and finally no emptying all our liquids into containers less than 100mls . It was completely stress free and better still there was no rushing out the door to make the dreaded airport dash!
So why a ‘stay-cation in Donegal’ ? Well we had been stalking the world wide web for some holiday deals and the indecision about where to go and what hotel to choose coupled with a sever lack of funds and my credit card begging not to be maxed out again was number one reason. The next was a stroke of luck, because on a recent visit to us in Tramore , my Aunt kindly offered us the use of their holiday home in Donegal. And there you have it our holiday fate was decided!
So on Sunday the 14th of August (the day after the races) see post here : Ladies Day at the races, we set off for Donegal. We brought Hugo with us and Harley went on his holidays to my parents house (he doesn’t travel too well!) We set off around lunch time and made a pitt stop just after Dublin at a Lake in Virginia, gave the dog a bit of a run about and had a bite to eat. We reached the holiday home in Donegal at around 7pm. We pulled up at the house- a huge old building with lots of character and a beautiful garden and both of us were excited for the week ahead. The house is located a short stroll down a semi private laneway to a beautiful beach.
We spent the first few days on the beach as luckily the weather was fab and each time we were down there we either had the beach to ourselves or very nearly did with one or two people sometimes making a rare appearance. Other places we visited while in Donegal were Donegal town , which is tiny by the way…but lovely, very lovely! Slieve League , which are the highest sea cliffs in Europe apparently. From these cliffs you can see all the way across the bay to Sligo, Leitrim and Mayo which is pretty spectacular. Whats also pretty special is the castle that stands on one of the cliffs and looks out to sea. The scenery in this part of the country really is breathtaking!
Another place we happened upon was Harveys Point , which is a beautiful Lake with fabulous scenery. We went to grab a bite to eat while we were there in Harveys Point Hotel and there was a stunning wedding taking place right on the lake! It was the most beautiful ceremony I’ve ever seen, all the guests were sitting out on the pier and luckily the rain held off! It was fab!
It was such a lovely week , just taking the time out with my two boys and forgetting about all our responsibilities at home! It was the perfect ‘Babymoon’ !
So maybe consider exploring more of Ireland before you make your next trip overseas. Not only is it good for your wallet, saving on flights etc, but its good for the economy too! Sometimes its nice to give back into our own economy rather than to some holiday resort in spain or elsewhere . Anyway, its definitely worth a second thought and Im glad we chose this type of holiday this time round.
Anyway thats it from me and I hope you got some inspo from our babymoon ! As always guys n gals if you’ve any questions on this or any of my other posts then please get in touch …
